CLUB DE VOL A VELA D’IGUALADA-ODENA, WELCOMES YOU!

The home of our club is located at the General Vives airfield just a mile East of the town of Igualada and about 35 miles West of Barcelona. There is an active gliding school on week-ends and our membership has around 110 pilots.

Aerial view of the airfield

The tarmac runway is 3.000 feet long and 45 feet wide. East of it runs paralell another one with grass. We use both of them. The runway headings are 17 and 35. Elevation is 1080 feet and the GPS coordinates are: 41º35’14”N, 001º39’08”E. Radio fequency: 122.60. Club phone on week-ends only is (34) 938.031.276.

Blanik                                                                           PW-5, ready for take off

If you are planning to arrive by air on your own aircraft, the beautiful Montserrat mountain range 10 miles East of the airfield is the most important landmark surrounding the area. Just at the south of the field when landing on runway 17 and at four miles in front of you you will see on top of a hill the castle of La Pobla de Claramunt..

Our tugs during "Aerosport 2004"

East of the field there is a nice 900 foot hill called Puig Aguilera where hill soaring is possible all year around either with the sea breeze in summer or the north-westerly wind in winter. In spring and summer thermal flying conditions are good enough to reach the Pyrenees North of Igualada and at only 30 miles away. There in the Pyrenees soaring conditions can be excellent for many hundreds of miles and been able as well to fly wave.

Our President Mr. M.Roca

Fleet: Our two tugs, a Cessna “Bird Dog” and a MS 893 Rallye are responsible to tow quite a number of gliders in a reasonable short time.

Gliders: There are two Blaniks L-13 for school and a Janus C for cross-country flying. As single seaters we have 1 PW5, 3 Pirats and 1 K6-E. As we love old timers there is a Bergfalke 2, a Swallow and a Grunau Baby waiting to be overhauled.

Hangar and club house

Privately there are about 25 gliders, 3 self launching types and a couple of motorgliders (Dimona and SF-28).

As for facilities there is a comfortable clubhouse, a classroom where we have also our morning briefings. There is enough space to hangar all the aircraft. In addition there is a small workshop for maintenance as well as a petrol station.

We welcome you to come and visit us!
