Dear members,

We are sorry to inform you of the death last week of one of the founding members of our Club, Antoni Freixas Cortés.

Antoni was, together with Àngel Anglada, Pau Ayesta and Joan Alegret, one of the founders of our club in Igualada, then the Gliding Section of the Aero Club Barcelona-Sabadell.

As a pioneer and great enthusiast, he brought the first Spatz aircraft over from Germany to set up the Section and later imported the first Phoebus and the Nimbus 2, currently in the hands of Emilio Iglesias.

A man of an unconventional profile, as is common in this world of gliding, he was a clear representative of the Catalan bourgeoisie. An industrialist in the textile trade and a notable figure in culture (he was co-producer of several Catalan-language films).

He never left anyone indifferent, being a great gliding enthusiast, well known both at LEIG and at Mora de Toledo, and a driving force of our sport from its very beginnings.

May he rest in peace.
