Everything in its own time.
For a few days the word had been going around Igualada that Giovanni was ready. As always, no one dared say anything, but from small signs we were all convinced it wouldn’t be long, even though the day never quite came. Sometimes because there was too much crosswind, other times because the sky suddenly clouded over completely and the weather threatened rain, or simply because the traffic made it inadvisable. Finally, on Saturday 21 June, the whole set of ideal conditions came together. About ten knots of sea-breeze wind nicely on the nose, giving more control on take-off; a clear afternoon for optimum visibility and, of course, a couple of flawless dual-control flights! When Manel asked Domenec for the pin, we knew the most important moment for Giovanni had arrived. “Romeo November, taking up slack”; the magic words had been spoken; a few seconds more and the K13 was in the air with another “half-pilot”.
